german designer erika hendrix

erika hendrix is a german fashion designer I recently found via dawanda. you can purchase her goods via erikahendrix.com as well. I’m still not quite over my purple obsession and I’ve also been wearing lots of shorts lately even though it’s freezing outside. it gives me an excuse to wear my collection of tights more often. so of course erika is taunting me with these purple bubble shorts.

olga ert aka inkpanda flowery sculptures via flickr

oh, I’ve been slacking on the blog… well.

I like olga ert’s sculptures of little creatures covered in flowers. I think she’s primarily an illustrator and most of her work is done under the name “inkpanda”, you can check out her work on behance, blogspot, and flickr. I believe she’s japanese, but lives in russia and speaks russian on all her online profiles. obviously I can’t read anything that she writes so that’s about the extend of my knowledge of her work. but hey, it’s pretty, right? that’s all I need to know.

I killed the DIY ecosphere

so I got the idea of making an ecosphere from robayre’s blog. after a few days of making it I let the snails and critters that were living in my ecosphere go, primarily because it wasn’t entirely closed and the water started reeking. the stench rivaled that of my valerian tea, which as you might already know smelled like six asses. I tried, ok.

I think I’ll just stick to keeping my zen garden on my desk for now. but every once in a while I like to peruse flickr for the most interesting photos of ecospheres, to think about what could have been. I’m so happy flickr has finally updated their search function, the previous search didn’t load any images for me half the time. oh, and I have a secret weapon against the spaceball.gif photos I despise so much. I’ll let you in on my little secret in due time.

DIY Ecopheres & Domsai Matteo Cibic planters

The other week, Jennifer took me to Crystal Lake Park in Urbana, IL. We had to walk through a slightly sketchy part of Urbana to get there and then upon arrival she tells me that a few years ago, bodies were found in the lake. Hrm. I thought we were just coming to scoop up some lake gunk for ecospheres? Haha. Despite the farty lake odor and some humongous wasps/hornets hanging out closer to the water, it seemed like a very pretty area to relax with family. It was so greeeeeen. CU locals who haven’t been should check it out. I think this is where a lot of charity 5Ks happen too. I guess once I get my lazy ass running again, I’d like to run out here and check out the trails.

The lake gunk Jennifer scooped out with some plastic pretzel buckets didn’t seem very promising at first for ecosphere material, but after allowing them to settle, there were indeed some little fishies and snails! Ecosphere success.

Coincidentally, I came across these cool little Domsai encased cactus pots by Matteo Cibic on the web after our ecosphere excursion. Not quite ecospheres, but definitely somewhat related. I want to put these in my bathroom or kitchen!!

whichgoose floral headbands + tiaras via etsy

I’m loving these boho hair crowns and accessories on etsy from whichgoose. her floral arrangements have been a source of inspiration for a new jewelry line I’m working on for bumblesea. not to mention the product photography is great, often featuring the designer herself, emily zych. this photo of the “cocoon” butterfly hair comb is one of my favorites of her nymphness. design crush of the week. do you like me? circle yes or no.

capree kimball photography

I’ve taken way too long to make a post about capree kimball’s photography. she is a lovely and very talented lady whom I met via twitter. capree on capree: “I’m a photographer, doodler, and hooligan. My photos are copyright protected.. don’t steal them or I’ll punch you in the face.”

lovely indeed. her diptychs are so soft and dreamy. oh, and she likes bumblesea enough to plug it on her blog. even better.

flora obsessions

I just spent a good three hours taking care of my plants. this is probably a sign that I have too many but I still cloned a few this morning. my collection of plants is starting to remind me of the jolie-pitt orphan menagerie. the first step to recovery is admitting you have a problem.

press release and flickr favs

jean whipped up a fantastic press release for the relaunch and new jewelry line. now I get the wonderful task of submitting it to publications and PR directories. yay?

most of my flickr favorites are either photos of strange little plants, ice caves, or sulking teenage girls. behold, some plants and stuff:

stumble upon + marty party

so I moved the blog. figured out that wordpress.com and wordpress.org are two different things and that .org is much more fun. all the traffic and google rankings will be coming to my own domain so I am a happy kitten. I’m still trying to get everything sorted from the overwhelmingly amazing week I just had.  after all the features happened I expected everything to settle down for a while, but something on my blog was shared on stumbleupon and I ended up getting a spike in traffic that turned all the peaks and valleys of my previous traffic to bumblesea into one big flat line before june 12th. I hate that stumbleupon won’t let you look at the “stumble” or bookmark someone made to your site. I bite my thumb at you, stumbleupon. anyone know a way around this?

I love asha’s photos. at first I thought her blog, marty party, was a curated collection of her favorite photos by different photographers. then I realized they were all hers. love ‘em.

bzzzzzzz

interview’s out in print and online as well. I don’t look like a quadruped but I am biting my lip in the photo. daryl must’ve heard moths and lichens as my inspiration instead of moss and lichens? haha… thank you daryl and james! and of course the ever lovely jean.
